The Haunted Mill Stories

The Thornburns

After returning home to Coldwater at the End of WW2, Dr. Nicolas Thornburn (“Doctor Nic”) and his wife Selma set up a rehabilitation center on the vacant second floor of The Mill. The purpose of the center was to help soldiers re-adapt to “normal” Life. As time went by soldiers would enter the Mill but would not return home.  When families inquired about their loved ones, they would be told by Dr. Nic that more time was needed and that he was working on something that would “help” the soldiers. Eventually some of the soldiers would return home in a “zombie” like state, unable to speak and with slowed motor skills. Soon, whispers spread around town of The Thornburn’s “experiments” and rumors of the Doctor having gone mad.

Eventually the center was raided by local authorities and what was found inside could not be comprehended. Machines that looked like they had come from the future and horrific experiments that traumatized those that looked upon them! No one knows exactly what drove the Thornburns to do what they did but a number of reasons were speculated, from experiments gone horribly wrong to the spirits of the former residents of the second floor (the Dravens) possessing him and his wife. Unfortunately, the Thornburns disappeared and with them the answers the town was seeking.

Meet the Draven Family

Barclay Draven, father

Barclay wanted his family to contribute to the town of Coldwater after they moved there.  Barclay became a hunter/trapper and eventually the town’s butcher. Never one to waste, he also dabbled in taxidermy.

Dune Draven, mother

Dune was a devoted wife and was very protective of her family.  She was known as “Mother” to the people of Coldwater as she ran a daycare and home school for the children that didn’t “fit in” at Coldwater Public School.  Her teaching methods had mixed reviews from the townsfolk. People either worshipped or despised her.

Jade Draven, daughter

Jade, from a very young age was obsessed with Halloween, especially the tradition of carving pumpkins.  Her Father would take her to a local “Fun Farm” every October to pick a pumpkin.

On her 13th birthday while trying to pick out the perfect pumpkin, she would be involved in an horrific farming accident.  The accident left her so disfigured that her father kept her locked in the Mill knowing how cruel the world was.  Legend says during October she would sneak out every night to collect a Pumpkin for every day of the month.

Jo Draven

Jo was the athlete of the family, whether it was a hockey stick or a baseball bat in his hands, he excelled at using his “weapons” to defeat his opponents. He was banned from playing local hockey after injuring many players (some severely).  His homemade goalie mask was said to be made from an actual human skull.
